Online Security Best Practices
Tips on how to prevent potential online threats
Living in 2022 means living in a state of a heightened online security posture — both for financial firms like Alumni Ventures and for our community members. Online threats have increased in recent years, and currently, government agencies have specifically asked financial services institutions to operate in a state of alertness given the war in Ukraine and potential for cyberthreats.
We take these responsibilities seriously and have increased our security measures significantly. We also want to take the opportunity to encourage our community members to do the same.
Below are important security considerations for our community:
- Understand what “phishing” attacks are. Be vigilant to avoid ever clicking on suspicious links, replying to unverified persons, etc.
- Use strong password practices. Avoid repeating passwords across multiple accounts. We recommend using a password manager or similar tool to manage your passwords.
- Never share personal information through unsecured communications. Alumni Ventures will never ask you to share banking/financial information with our firm other than through our secure portal. If you are skeptical about a communication from AV, please contact [email protected].
This is ongoing work for all of us, and we will keep evolving our security precautions as outside threats evolve. We will continue to share best practices with our community members. Stay safe!
