Alumni Ventures (AV), one of the world’s most active venture capital firms, is a proud investor in pioneering digital healthcare startup Salvo Health. The company is addressing the needs of the 60 million Americans who suffer from conditions such as IBS, metabolic liver disease, and obesity, with a mission to offer continuous, personalized, and holistic care. AV invested in Salvo’s $5 million seed prime round led by City Light Capital and Human Ventures, with participation from Torch Capital, Threshold Ventures, and Felicis Ventures.

Founded by Jeff Glueck, the former CEO of Foursquare and CMO of Travelocity, Salvo Health is redefining patient care through an innovative model that blends advanced tech with human connection. The digital-first nature of Salvo’s services ensures accessibility and convenience, with patients spending approximately three hours per month engaging with their care team through the app. A significant portion of this interaction is software-mediated, allowing for efficiency and scalability while maintaining the crucial human element that patients value.

“Patients with chronic conditions often find themselves under-supported in the traditional healthcare system, with ten minute physician appointments and then limited follow-up care between visits,” said Glueck, who recently discussed Salvo on AV’s Tech Optimist podcast. “Our platform bridges this gap by enabling specialty physicians like GI’s access to a team of dietitians, GI psychology programs, and nurses for continuous care through our app, with support seven days a week.”

Salvo Health’s approach is underpinned by its proprietary Whole Self Science model, which combines strategies from both conventional and functional medicine. This model is crafted in collaboration with leading experts from prestigious institutions like Cedars-Sinai, UCLA, Harvard, and Columbia. The result is a care plan that considers all aspects of a patient’s life, including diet, nutrition, microbiome restoration, mental health, and lifestyle factors like sleep and stress.

“Salvo Health’s unique combination of digital tools and personalized care is exactly what the healthcare industry needs,” said AV Founder and CEO Mike Collins, who hosted the conversation with Glueck on AV’s Tech Optimist podcast. “By providing patients with the support of a dedicated team of specialists, they are making healthcare more accessible, effective, and compassionate.”
