Alumni Ventures Invests in Evil Genius Games to Modernize Tabletop Gaming
Founder and CEO David T. Scott Recently Discussed His Company on AV’s Tech Optimist Podcast
Alumni Ventures (AV), one of the world’s most active venture capital firms, is a proud investor in Evil Genius Games. The company is developing modern day tabletop role-playing games supported by a unique game-as-a-service platform. AV is part of the company’s impressive investor syndicate, including other established firms like MBA Ventures, Blockchain Founders Fund, Citta Capital, Hustle Fund, and Serafund.
Founded in 2021 by former Amazon executive David T. Scott, Evil Genius Games is bringing a fresh perspective to the $27 billion tabletop games market. A long-time fan of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), Scott founded Evil Genius Games to address the limited digital options for tabletop games enthusiasts, especially in response to the increasing demand for online gaming experiences.
Their flagship game, Everyday Heroes, offers a modern-day adaptation of the classic D20 system based on D&D 5E rules, enabling players to explore scenarios beyond traditional fantasy and into the worlds of contemporary action heroes.

“We’re blending digital-first experiences with a rich modern day storytelling system, and fan-favorite action franchises to create a platform that enables players to relive their favorite action movies and connect with friends online,” explained Scott, who recently discussed his company on AV’s Tech Optimist podcast. “Our goal is to make the world of tabletop games accessible and inclusive for a wider audience, from dedicated role-players to those new to the genre.”
Evil Genius Games has also established partnerships with Hollywood studios, allowing players to dive into immersive storylines based on iconic action films such as Pacific Rim, Kong: Skull Island, and Highlander.
“David and his team are transforming a classic hobby into a modern digital platform, opening new avenues for community, creativity, and engagement within the tabletop gaming space,” said AV Associate Jason Bird, who hosted the conversation with Scott on AV’s Tech Optimist podcast. “We believe their focus on inclusivity and innovation will continue to set them apart in the industry.”
